Cpt. Samantha Frey has been active duty for over three years. Her life turned upside down when she suddenly became sick. The 26-year-old could not work, exercise, or live in the way she had functioned before. She arrived at the Fort Bragg Soldier Recovery Unit surrounded by uncertainty, not knowing what was wrong or what the rest of her life would look like. Through adaptive sports, Cpt. Frey was able to feel capable again. Focusing on new ways to exercise gave her an anchor while surrounded by so many unknowns. Setting goals and training again gave her that sense of purpose and satisfaction that she had been missing.

During her journey, she learned to “be grateful for what you are currently capable of.” Cpt. Frey is grateful for her partner, family, and friends for their continuous support.
