Chief Warrant Officer 4 Joann Tsuhako joined the Alaska National Guard in 1994, then transferred to the Army Reserve in 2004, and became an Active Guard and Reserve Soldier in 2009. Upon her cancer diagnosis, her world was sent into a tailspin. She did not know what to expect and how it would affect her future.

The introduction to adaptive sports gave Tsuhako the motivation each day and she dedicated her time to improving these newfound skills. The coaches and the staff at the Fort Bragg SRU helped her to find a new passion in archery and cycling. She says that adaptive sports helped change her outlook on life while recovering from cancer treatment. The new sports gave her an outlet while taking care of her health mentally and physically. She is very grateful for her wife who was there for her throughout her treatment.
