Master Sgt. Earlie Brown began his Army career in 2000 first on active, duty then he transitioned into the Army Reserve after completing his first contract. As a Construction Engineer, he served in Iraq , Afghanistan, and Syria. On his last deployment in Syria, Brown suffered a serious eye infection that sent him to the hospital in Germany and further treatment was required at Walter Reed. Not realizing what a Soldier Recovery Unit was, Brown embraced the opportunity to restore his health and learn new ways to recover. Adaptive sports became a part of his daily road to recovery along with strengthening bonds between other Soldiers at the SRU.

His recovery is also about teamwork, being able to socialize with people, learning something new, and being taught something new. Master Sgt. Brown learned how to exercise differently with different parts of his body, and has a new outlet. The Florida native has two daughters and one son and will medically retire from the Army soon.
