Master Sgt. Ruth L. Morris joined the Army in May 1990, followed by the Army Reserves since 2000. After Basic Combat Training, she was selected for the U.S. Army Airborne School but sustained a traumatic brain injury, preventing her from finishing the course. Despite the setback, Morris transitioned into the parachute rigger career field.

Building on her experience carrying the U.S. flag at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, her athletic talent was recognized again during a deployment to Korea from 1991-92. She was selected for the All-Army Track Team and the Army’s World Class Athlete Program, leading her to train for the 1992 Olympic Games.

Morris later served in key leadership roles, including first sergeant, command sergeant major, and drill sergeant. During her final mobilization, another injury led to an assignment at the Fort Bragg Soldier Recovery Unit. Through its Adaptive Reconditioning Program, she rebuilt her physical capabilities and now views competing in the Warrior Games as a powerful new beginning that reflects her lifelong commitment to excellence.

Motto:
"I wake up each day with a grateful heart.”
