Ret. Spc. Jeyson Ruiz began his Army career later than many of his peers, driven by a desire to be part of something greater than himself. Motivated and ambitious, he entered the Army determined to build a meaningful future through service.
During his third year of service, Ruiz’s life changed unexpectedly following a vacation accident at the beach, when a wave slammed him to the ground, breaking his neck and leaving him a quadriplegic. The injury marked the beginning of a challenging recovery and a new chapter in his life.
Today, Ruiz approaches life with a renewed perspective, focused on building community and continuing to push his limits. He credits the care and encouragement of Dr. Best, Olivia and Catherine at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for their support throughout his recovery journey.
Competing for the first time in Warrior Games, Ruiz hopes to challenge himself and connect with fellow athletes who share similar experiences in recovery and resilience.
Motto:
"Don't overthink, just do."
