Spc. Alexis Pantoja dedicated nearly five years to the U.S. Army. On September 24, 2022 his life changed forever. After a hit-and-run accident while riding a bicycle, he spent ten days in a coma and over four months as an inpatient in the hospital.
The 23-year-old competed in the 2024 Warrior Games in Orlando, Florida. Spc. Pantoja struggled with the symptoms from his injury until he found swimming, which he was introduced to at the Fort Bliss Soldier Recovery Unit. Swimming helped him overcome some of his injury symptoms most notably impaired motor function. He had to relearn how to walk and write among other things during his recovery.
Spc. Pantoja is excited to compete at the 2025 Warrior Games. He never imagined the great recovery he achieved being part of the Fort Bliss SRU.
