Ret. Staff Sgt. Gene Calantoc dedicated ten years to serve in the U.S. Army. He deployed to Afghanistan from 2012- 2013. On March 29, 2020, his life changed forever following a devastating motorcycle accident where at the scene, he lost his left leg below the knee. As a result, he had an above-the-knee amputation during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, making an already traumatic experience even more challenging for Calantoc and his family. He was transported to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, where Calantoc finally received the level of care he needed. He believed his life was over. But everything changed when he arrived at the Soldier Recovery Unit at Fort Sam Houston and was introduced to adaptive sports. Now a veteran, Calantoc continues to thrive through adaptive athletics. He has been a member of the Texas Parasports team for the past three years and remains deeply involved in the adaptive sports community.

Motto:
“Stay true, when life knocks you down, rise stronger and keep moving forward."
